About CIIS 2022

The 5th International Conference on Computational Intelligence in Information Systems (CIIS 2022) will be held on 17th to 19th October 2022 in Brunei Darussalam and is being organised and hosted by School of Computing and Informatics (SCI), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) to provide an opportunity to research scholars, academicians, industrialists and research students to interact and share their experience and knowledge in the recent technological advancements in the field of Computing and Information Systems. Due to COVID19 pandemic, the conference will be using online mode.

The Conference looks for significant contributions to all major fields of the Computing and Information Systems in theoretical and practical aspects. It brings together experts from industry, government and academia, experienced in innovation, design, innovation and research. CIIS 2022 offers a rich program, including keynote address, paper and poster presentations. The conference therefore provides UTB an excellent opportunity to attract expertise and professionals from academia and industries from all over the world to come to Brunei Darussalam for sharing, networking and collaboration.

Theme of the Conference: Intelligent and Resilient Digital Innovations for Sustainable Living

Over the last few decades, due to high population growth and overuse of the natural resources, including fossil fuels, our Earth has been experiencing climate change, global warming, and depletion of the ozone layer unprecedentedly. At this point of time, we need to emphasize on promoting sustainable living practices and translating sustainable policies into action. Rapid technological advancement has been leveraging the digital innovation, which can contribute for paving the way for the society to practice sustainable living.  We need to rethink, through digital innovation how we can better utilize resources, manage waste and recycle materials as well as reduce carbon footprint of transportation, manufacturing and ICT sectors.  Around the globe, researchers from diverse fields have been putting effort relentlessly for harnessing frontier technologies to realise sustainable living. With this, CIIS-2022 program, we would like to bring together the researchers from industries and academia having diverse fields and provide an excellent international platform for sharing knowledge and latest innovations and developments in realising an intelligent and resilient digital innovation for sustainable living.  

The focus areas of this conference include Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoTs), Machine Learning, Business Intelligence, Predictive Analytics, Digital reality, Blockchain, SMAC (Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud), Product and Design technology, Smart Products, User Experience (UX), Human Centred Design (HCD), Additive Manufacturing, Information Security, Computer Networks and Cyber Technologies.

Conference Objectives:

  • To provide a platform for UTB researchers to be able to engage and interact with international researchers, experts, and professionals.
  • To encourage academics and researchers to participate and generate research outputs.
  • To enhance SCI, UTB visibilities as leading research institution on Computing and Informatics in Brunei Darussalam.
  • To provide a platform for international and regional researchers and experts to share their findings.

Call for Papers

The 5th International Conference on Computational Intelligence in Information Systems (CIIS 2022),  which will be held in Brunei Darussalam on 17th - 19th October 2022 (virtual conference), is open to receive submissions for possible publication.

* Accepted papers of CIIS 2022 will be submitted for inclusion in the AIP Digital Library and will have an open access for a year to the researchers worldwide. The papers in the AIP Conference Proceedings will be indexed by Scopus (Elsevier), Conference Proceedings Citation Index (Web of Science) and Inspec.

Special Session

User experience (UX) in Technology emphasizes user experience on the usability and accessibility of the application platform, significant enough to be incorporated in application design or course design to the extent it is considered a high demand in the industry. The UX design interlaced with user interface (UI) design is focused on expecting the imminent interaction of users and their needs, thus ensuring the elements of the interface can secure the user’s impending needs by making the platform to be easily accessible and user friendly. Therefore, this session aims to promote UX in technology by providing a platform for discussion about the authenticity of a new idea that gives users a new experience in UX.

    The CIIS committee only accepts video links via the google form. Please check the accessibility of the video before submitting the form. Make sure the file can be read and downloaded by only having a link without having to go through a login or permission request.

CIIS2022 E-Poster Student Competition

*Due to the virtual nature of the conference, we are only accepting Electronic Posters (e-Posters) and abstracts, both in pdf format. Printed posters or photographs of printed posters will not be accepted.*

The CIIS Student e-Poster Competition is organised as part of the CIIS 2022 conference event and is open for any postgraduate and undergraduate students to present results from projects or research that they have carried out as postgraduate and undergraduate researchers in the university.


Eligibility:

The e-poster competition is open to individuals who are full-time students in Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) at the time of submission for projects recently performed while enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degree program.

This e-poster competition is exclusively for and categorised as 3rd year, 4th year undergraduate students and Postgraduate students.


Make sure that your supervisor(s) all sign off on your e-poster and abstract before submission; all submitted abstracts will become public information. The e-poster competition should be aimed towards the main conference theme and/or special session tracks.


Getting Prepared:

Timeline:
1st October 2022 - E-poster and abstract submission opens.
13th October 2022 - Deadline to submit e-poster pdfs and abstract.
14th – 15th October 2022 - Scoring of e-poster.
19th October 2022 – Winners will be announced (Closing ceremony).


General guidelines for e-poster:

Poster size and format

  • Poster must be submitted in PDF format.
  • It is recommended to make your poster be A3.

Your information

  • The top of the poster should display, in lettering of 18 Bold, Times New Roman and the following information: Title of your paper/thesis/project, Name(s) of Authors.
**Co-authors names can appear on the e-poster

Lettering

  • Kindly use both UPPER and lower case for general content, as all-capital text is difficult to read. It is recommended to use 14 Times New Roman font style for the content of the poster.
  • Make sure there is enough contrast between the colour of the text and the poster's background.
  • Text and presentation should be in ENGLISH only.

Content of the poster

  • Make sure that the specific sections are easy to locate in the poster.
  • Try to keep the text easy to read and concise. The poster should have a clear message, a logical layout and be easy to comprehend.
  • Avoid the use of full sentences. Rather use short text in bullet point format.
  • Avoid using watermarks that may detract from the readability of your poster.

Illustrations

  • Illustrations are the most important part of the poster and will attract the most attention. Colorful charts and graphs are the easiest to read. Explanatory illustrations should be used instead of text whenever possible.
  • Use only static images. Do not include animation or any videos.
  • Try to utilise the space of your poster creatively to attract the audience and make sure the images are easy to understand.


General guidelines abstract:

For each e-poster, the student will prepare an abstract that will be uploaded along with their e-poster. These materials will only be available to the judges, CIIS 2022, committee members and may be shown during the closing ceremony. Suggested length of the abstract is 200-250 words.

Make sure that your supervisor(s) all sign off on your abstract before submission; all submitted abstracts will become public information. Posters should be aimed towards the main conference theme and/or special session tracks.


Competition and Evaluation:

There will be three categories: 3rd, 4th year undergraduate and postgraduate.


Evaluation will include:

  • Methodology: Methods are appropriate and properly applied.
  • Results: Logical, clearly presented, properly summarised.
  • Conclusion: Based on results presented, emphasises significance and implications of study.
  • Presentation: Poster is well prepared, well organised, balance in content, and logically sequenced.
  • Understanding of subject: Clearly states objectives of the study and relationship to earlier work, demonstrates understanding of the subject.


Submission:

e-Poster and abstract submission deadline: 13th October 2022
Email the e-poster and abstract to ciis.secretariat@utb.edu.bn with your name and roll number, and in the Subject: POSTER: your poster title, your year of study and your programme area, by 13th October 2022.
Posters will not be published in the conference proceeding.


Judging:

Each submitted e-poster will be reviewed and scored to determine First, Second and Third place winners for each category.


Awards:

Awards will be given to the first, second and third place best posters for each category. Each winning categories will receive cash prizes and certificates. The awards will be announced on 19th October 2022 at the closing ceremony.

First prize: $200

Third prize: $100
