The Land of Unexpected Treasures

Brunei Darussalam is a small Sultanate, occupying 5,765 square kilometres on the northwest corner of the island of Borneo. The country is surrounded by the South China Sea on the north, and by the Malaysian state of Sarawak on all other sides.

Oil and natural gas form the backbone of the economy of Brunei, accounting for 63 percent of GDP and 93 percent of exports (2014). This wealth of natural resources has enabled a very high standard of living for its people in terms of GDP per capita of B$52,614 (US$40,472).

About 78 percent the country is covered in pristine rainforest. Brunei has many tourist attractions such as Jameā€™Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, Kampong Ayer water village, and Royal Regalia museum.
